Periscope
Perched on the mezzanine of The S&W Market, Periscope is the new spot from Becky Bronson and Spencer Schultz.
The name is a nod to Douglas Ellington, the architect behind some of Asheville’s most iconic Art Deco buildings. Before designing these landmarks, Ellington served in the US Navy during WWI, where his artistic talent was put to a surprising use: “dazzle camouflage.” Allied ships were painted in geometric, Cubism-inspired patterns to confuse enemy periscopes and torpedo gunners. A journalist of the time called them “a flock of sea-going Easter eggs.” Fantastic! Surreal! Kind of silly!
At Periscope, we carry that spirit forward with cocktails on draft, natural wines, and pies from New Stock Pantry—all in a space designed for lingering, relaxing, and discovering something a little unexpected.
